    Fawn Fuelie?

My 62 is currently brilliant "resale red", with red interior. I have been reasonable sure ever since I've owned the car that it was originally fawn beige. After removing the rear license plate bracket yesterday, there is now no question, as the original fawn beige lacquer resides underneath.

The current paint, which is bc/cc, is about a 9 on a 1-10 scale, but I am thinking about "freshing it up" in the next few weeks, mainly because I think the color is a little too orange. I suspect whoever mixed it may have looked at a faded sample of Roman Red and tried to match it rather than finding the correct mixing formula.

Anyway, I keep seeing references to Fawn Beige that seem to indicate that it is really something special. Is this because of rarity (1800+/- units), or just because it's such an UGLY color? I really can't see myself painting the car back in FB. I really like red, even though there may be too many red Corvettes around. One more won't hurt. Besides, it matches the '67, which was originally white.

Any real good, compelling reason I ought to change the color back to FB? I'm not concerned with judging or utter originality. The car is and will continue to be a near daily driver. I solicit your learned opinions. I'm probably going to paint the car back red regardless, but I'm interested in your thoughts on the subject.

Personally I think a 62 Fawn Beige is a very bueatiful car. If I was buying a 62 and could chose between or a Roman Red and Fawn Beige, I would chose the Fawn Beige because the color looks so great on the 62.

I agree with Jim, the Fawn Beige is a really classy looking color on a 1962. I'm sure if you hunt around, you can find a picture of one. In the end, if your not having the car judged and you intend to just drive it for you, it's your call.

      All the best

I rather like the fawn colour and if I were in your shoes would go back to it. This car is owned by a member of our Corvette Club.

          Hi!

The first Corvette I ever owned was a 1962 Fawn Beige and that was many years ago. I think it is a great color but I am a little bias!

              Ed,
The 62 I have was originally Fawn B with red interior. As a fellow member told me
about 6 years ago that there were only about 800 made in that combo. I still painted it red BC/CC cuz thats what I like. I think you should please yourself.

I have a `62 White with Black Interior. I would really LOVE to have a Fawn Beige which also has been proven to be called Harvest Gold. It waqs at the National in Willamsburg that proved the Harvest Gold Colour.

I remember that story from the Restorer magazine. I wonder what ever happened to the owner? (Curt Gifford?) Haven't heard much about him or of him in a long time. Dale Pearman was looking for him about 4 years ago, and surmised he had passed on.

Patrick, somewhere I remember Doc "Q" telling me that Curt had passed away several years ago.

I'm not looking for it, but just wonder what the family did with the car. One owner Fawn Beige car. Curt wrote some articles on it, too.

Ed, there's some good detail pictures of a 62' for sale at cnv-corvettes.com to get an idea. I like the fawn and think it works well on the 62. Joe.

Ed: There's also a '61 Fawn Beige with red interior on www.CorvetteTrader.com.
to get a look at the combo. Not too many like them around. Fawn Beige is a beautiful color.

There are two different codes for 61 and 62 fawn beige. Are they the same formula? That white cove on the 61 doesn't do much for me. I'd still like to see a good picture of a 62 FB with a red interior. I'd sure hate to paint that car brown and turn around in a week or so and start stripping it off!
