Other than normal balancing, does a 396 crankshaft need anything special done to it to be used in a 427?

Re: 396/427 CRANKSHAFT INTERCHANGE
Rob - the 6223 is used many times in 427 rebuilds, the only difference as Joe mentions is the rebalance. As I recall, one of the middle counterweights is wider in the 7115 crank. It seems most 427's that come apart frequently have a 6223 vs 7115 in them anyway, maybe they have been gone throgh before by now and the original cranks are gone. I would be curious if any known original engines from folks on this board had 6223 forgings instead......but probably not as that would be a special rebalance option at the engine line....Craig- Top
