    Original equipment

Hi. Thanks for the responses to my engine question. In the quest to find out everything about my '62 Vette and do the best restoration job possible, I have another question.

Is there a way to find out, maybe by means on the VIN, what the car was originally equipped with when it left the factory?

    Henk.

NO! In this era, VIN system was 'intelligent' only to the point of differentiating body style (coupe, convertible, station wagon, Etc.). And, Corvettes were ALL convertibles then....

To determine how your car was originally factory equipped takes a 'pack' of sleuthing experts looking for telltale evidence of options that are no longer present (mounting holes, now empty, in fiberglass Etc.). This 'method' is, at best, iffy, because it can't distinguish parts and body components that have been changed over the years by prior owners that were 'borrowed' from other Corvettes, so it's a 'best effort' guestimate....

The only way I found out about most of the original options on my early Vette was to find the ownership history. An individual who had owned the car 35 years ago told me the options that were present when he owned it. Haven't gotten to the original owner yet but still trying!
