    Insuring your classic Corvette

First, let me say thanks for all the kind remarks we have had on the Carolinas Regional. Altough it was lots of hard work, it was a pleasure to host all of you to our part of the world. I agree that the speedway is a great venue for a meet.

On a sadder note, the very original 1982 Collector Edition that was judged Saturday and passed Star/Bowtie qualification was involved in an accident on the way home Sunday. The owner now faces trying to get a fair settlement from the insurance company. As we know that car can never be the same even if it is repairable. It is no longer a Bowtie candidate.

If you don't have stated-value coverage on your classic, look into it. I got this type policy on my 1972 driver last year and am not paying a great deal more in premiums for some peace of mind.

No, not "Stated-value"; what is needed is an "Agreed Value" policy. There is a big difference.

I do know the difference, Tom. My fingers typed in the wrong word. Thanks.

I'm paranoid about the insane (read wild, wild West) Anchorage traffic and I know better than to take my never hit/painted/restored '61 out for a spin without insurance. But my insurance co. won't cover it's value. Know of any short courses on specialty car insurance or honest dealers/appraisers? Rumor on the street here is that the only appraiser in town has a problem with honest evaluations. These often are followed by low-jack offers. Newcomer to these pages but not to NCRS.

          Lauchlan:

We have been using an Anchorage insurance agency (C.H.I. of Alaska) for quite a few years to insure, first our 1955 T-Bird and currently our 1961 Corvette. Actually, C.H. I. brokers/arranges for a J. C. Taylor (Agreed Value, limited use) policy to be issued upon payment of the annual premium. A detailed video and an appraisal were required when I first obtained the Corvette policy.

Incidentally, our 1961 Corvette, black with silver coves and red interior, has been vacationing in Washington State and is expected to return to Anchorage next month. We would love to see your Jewel Blue sometime and meet a fellow NCRS member from Anchorage.
