I need to remove the paint on my 67 blue console in prep for new paint. What is the best method? Chemical stripping? Light sanding? I attempted to paint it last weekend and the paint did not go on very well and it is too shiny. Need some advise.
best way to deal with console paint adhesion is to TAPE OFF all non-paint(chrome) areas of the console with duct tape then lightly glass bead the portions of the console that will get paint. you will in effect scuff the previously painted and chrome plated surfaces with the glass beads which will enhance adhesion of paint to the console.good luck. mike
I can't help but wonder, just what did GM or the console supplier/vedor due to the chrome(if anything) to make the paint adhere to the chrome? Maybe someone can shed some light on this subject?
