    Oil on floorboards

Does anyone out there know the reason why I have oil on both my floorboards? I have a 71" 350 air roadster with the air compressor removed. I know it isn't anti-freeze, I already had the heater core blow and recently repaired it. Besides there is new Prestone in the radiator and the color of the fluid on my carpets is brown, not green and I'm not missing any coolant. The mitigating factors are I'm losing engine oil and there is no puddle on the floor beneath the car. Also, I don't know if this is a factor but the tachometer recently stopped working. It was making a lot of noise before it quit so I just assumed the cable broke. Is there another reason where the engine oil could play into a tach malfunction? Any help in isolating this problem would be greatly appreciated. The weather finally turned warm and I'd sure like to be out enjoying my car.

Probably not related to the tach, but have you checked for leakage in the lint to the oil pressure gauge, or in the gauge itself?

Like Bill said - a leak in the oil line, or gauge, will do it. Oil leaks on the radio (which doesn't help the electronics in there either), and from there onto the carpet(s). Awful to clean up - I have first hand experience with this malfunction. It has nothing to do with the tach - that is another issue.

I had a leak where the line for the gauge meets the rear of the block. It is a plastic line and just snipped a little piece off,put a new ferrule on it and it is o.k. It really wasn't that much of a leak but hot oil spreads fast especially when the fan catches it and blows it all over.It looked a lot worse than it was.Try checking here.

Check the Oil Gauge and line. This happened to my '68. Made a real mess. I don't how you clean it up.

There is a oil line that runs to your oil pressure guage...at least it does on my '64. Check to make sure the fitting is tight, or there is no leak in the oil pressure line.

To everyone that responded: thank you! Don't yet know if this is my fix but it definitely gives me a direction to go to find the problem. I apprecitate being a member of NCRS and all the knowledgeable people who are a part of it.
