ncrs and engine pads gene manno corvette fever had a little artical on ncrs and it's acceptance of non original engine pads where in the guidelines rules does it state that a known restamped block should pass judging standards if a car grows a correct pad since previous flight judging unless we are stupid how can this go unaccounted for should not ncrs rely on previous judging and records to keep these owners from passing thru fake blocks ncrs should be looking at cars exactly as they were produced by the general that means not adding side pipes correctly or any other option that enhances the resale we currently disallow trim tag modifications that controls paint color and interior fabric and color why should we be so selective in allowing some modified options and not others i feel every car should retain it's original block trans diff and frame body color interior color and fabric options or not the way the car was built reactions comments

Re: NCRS AND ENGINE PADS
re ncrs and engine pads carl rose dear mr manno i would agree with your opinion restamped blocks deviations from original colors added options etc are fine if that is what the owner desires but they should not be accepted by the ncrs in the same category as an original untouched unrestored car whatever that may be unfortunately the financial implications of flight judging will perpetuate this problem maybe this is a purist point of view but if the folks who modify their cars are unhappy with this they need go somewhere else just my sentiments carl- Top

re ncrs and engine pads vinnie peters gene you've had your car judged in the past couple of months the editorial from corvette fever was taken out of context directly from the owners advisory it was also published in the spring issue of the restorer on page you should have received one of these when your car was judged tim mckeon and i spoke to richard newton the editor of corvette fever and he will be printing a letter from tim and also has told us that he will print the advisory in context roy was trying to explain the difference between counterfiet and restoration gene you might also include your email address so i can reply off the board thanks vinnie

Re: NCRS AND ENGINE PADS/ Judging Standards
re ncrs and engine pads judging standards mike ward ncrs quebec chapter one of the subjects that keeps coming up at our chapter judging schools and meets is the use of prior knowledge of a given car or more precisely the non use of previous knowledge it happens that one our top judges is also in the restoration business and by coincidence was asked to judge a car he had restored some years earlier the car in question had some body panels replaced during the restoration but was done in a manner that was undetectable by ncrs standards his dilema was whether to ignore his previous knowledge or to deduct points knowing the panels although nos were not on the car when it left st l we decided that the previous knowledge had to be ignored as not to predjudice the owner and no deduction was made i think the question about an engine pad in this string is similar vinnie would you care to comment on this point- Top

Re: NCRS AND ENGINE PADS
re ncrs and engine pads everett ogilvie i think it is important to distinguish between original unrestored cars and restorations most restorations have no documentation window sticker owner history tank sticker etc to prove that the car came a certain way from the factory for a freshly restored car without proof of the car's original configuration who makes the call if the owner added his sidepipes new engine etc how many restorations are out there with modified trim tags or stamp pads more than we are aware of probably if most cars to be judged fit into this category then the correctness of the configuration has to be judged not whether any given part may or may not have been there originally cars that claim to be unrestored originals can usually be detected as to changes made later by experts but a new restoration is a different story- Top

Re: NCRS AND ENGINE PADS
re ncrs and engine pads wayne gibson gene in responce to your comments on added value parts to corvette restoration i have thought for a long time that ncrs should require documentation on any corvette being judged at an ncrs meet this can be in the form of pop original invoice etc this could be a bonus point item or required top flight critera this would certainly have an effect on the so called correct corvettes being shown today interested in any responce w gibson- Top

Re: NCRS AND ENGINE PADS
re ncrs and engine pads lou rocha are we going to extremes i thought the purpose was to restore the car to the condition it was when it came from the factory and was delivered to the owner if the parts are not detectable as non original in composition or installation then whats the issue i feel the issue is not the restamp or replacement part but that some one is willing to pay large amounts on money for original cars how many have seen restored race cars are these all original i doubt it how many mile cars are totally original if they are they are probably being judged as bow tie cars my car has date replacement parts as well as prior body damage if this can't be detected as not on the car when shipped whats the issue i thought this was supposed to be fun also remember these cars were made on a production assembly line and not for show other components were used if needed to keep the line running sorry for the message length- Top

Re: NCRS AND ENGINE PADS
re ncrs and engine pads jack humphrey ncrs judging rules prohibit judges from using information they glean from the owner or believe to be true based on hearsay or prior showings of the car each flight judging represents a clean slate to promote us to improve our restorations only the owner receives the original flight score sheets and no copies are archieved at ncrs therefore each car stands on it's own merit from scratch each time it is presented for judging personally what's the big deal about a correctly restored authentic motor cylinder case bearing proper casting date that just happened to spend its prior life in a passenger car truck or taxi it was made in a gm foundry by real gm uaw workers at the proper point in history if i can't tell it from the real mccoy it's good enough for me which is why each ncrs flight certificate bears a disclaimer on the back just as those at bloomington do saying we do not certify the car to be original merely that it appears to be original how many donnelly reproduction mirrors do we see built off original tooling but not created handled by gm staff that are so close to the real thing we spot them full credit the same goes for upholstery and many other parts this is a hobby and if we followed the thoughts you propose there'd be maybe three of us on the flight judging field few can own a truly factory original corvette so why pick on the cylinder case different from other parts that wear out and need to be replaced now putting a bb into an original sb car and getting caught is an entirely different story putting something back to how it was is a ok and does not constitute fraud in my book- Top
