Newly restored C1 clock shows no love- ???

I just got the clock in the '62 back from Clockworks, it required a general going over and repair of the spade terminal on the back. The receipt has a handwritten note that says: "Set hands to start clock" Ok, I figure, plug it in (I installed a 1 amp inline fuse in the red power lead), install the lamp socket with a new bulb (it appears that the gray wire from the lamp completes the circuit, as the bulb lights up as soon as its socket touches the clock case), and adjust the hands to the correct time. Well, no ticking, and no movement of the hands over 5 minutes. I pull the clock, and it's nice and warm from the bulb cooking inside it, but no ticking. There's +12V at the red lead, and an ohmeter across the clock itself = 4.5 ohms. Other than the obvious (call Clockworks and ask them what's wrong) does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

    Rob,

Either send it back to Clockworks and have them repair the clock again or send it to another clock repair station to have it fixed.

Going into a C1 clock by yourself will probably end in disaster.

      I think I may have a testable solution (m)-

      JR-

Wouldn't dream of messing with the clock myself, and I've never heard anything bad about Clockworks, so I'm sure the issue is on my end. In fact, another member e-mailed with the suggestion that maybe I'm missing a clock console ground wire, as the clock lamp is constantly lit even with the headlamp switch off. (I haven't spent much time up under the dash on this car yet). I interpret that to mean that the lamp socket is serving as my ground, and bypassing the winding coil. So if I separately ground the clock console, it oughta work. I'll see about this tonight. I wonder whether this might explain why the radio isn't functional, though the PO said it worked pre-restoration. Does the radio share this ground? (Sorry, don't have the wiring diagrams at work.....)

        Rob...

The Radio ground is connected to the right valve cover rear screw. ( using the same valve cover screw that grounds the wiper motor if I remember right) The clock console plate is ground via a black wire from the harness that carries the courtesy lamb, heater switch etc wires. Make sure the external tooth lockwasher bits into the plate on this ground.

Of course, duh, I've seen the radio ground on the valve cover. My courtesy lamp socket was dangling in the breeze until last weekend when I cut the new dash pad and installed the lamp. I'll chase the rest of that part of the harness. Thanks!

            Rob,

But there should be an additional wire (besides the radio ground wire) to your middle console. Make sure its there as well!

            greetings,
            Another Rob.

Rob is exactly correct. The valvecover ground serves only the radio, and the clock plate in the console is served by a completely different ground wire fron the harness. You can jump a clip lead to the radio ground to test the clock, but this is not the grond that serves the clock or heater motor.
