I am looking to change-out what appears to be a junk-yard replacement hood release on my '66 AC coupe. The release bracket under the dash has the original stamp on it, so it looks like it's correct/real, but the replacement handle looks like a vintage chrome button type pull from some other Chevy.
Here's my question:
The hood release cable housing appears to be crimped onto the bracket, so I just slipped out the old handle/cable assy and was planning to slide-in a new repro t-handle/cable I just bought from Paragon. Problem is the repro unit's shaft connecting the t-handle to the wire is too long for the shaft housing that is crimped on the bracket. The result is that the t-handle doesn't bottom out on the base/bracket, but rather sticks out about an inch.
Were the original cable housing crimped on? And if yes, does anyone make a 'correct' cable with a shorter shaft? Suggestions?
