    69 Wipers don' t wipe

    I tried the wipers last weekend on my 69 when it started to sprinkle and they did not work. The wiper door lifted opened but the wipers did not come out of their hiding place. Any suggestions? Is there a fuse that might be blown?

    Re: 69 Wipers don' t wipe

    I would look at the fuse first thing.I have had a ton of problems with my 69 wipers, got really frustrated and worked on something else for a while. Now I am trying it again. I put in a new switch and aleast got them to run, I had power to the switch but not out.Now my problem is they will only run when I hit the washers,not on 1st or 2nd speed.Then the door will not close after I run them on the washer cycle.Any and all help appreciated.

    p.s.

    IHAVE BOUGHT A CHILTONS AND THE TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE FROM CORVETTE CENTRAL, niether one of much help.They are both to general, I need if it does this try this and if it does that try that type help.

    Thanks Tom

        Mike when the wiper door opens it pushes a switch which will allow electric power to the wiper motor. First check that you have power to and through this switch.

          Tom, I had the same symptoms with my '69. It was a ground problem. The switch is not grounded through the wiring harness. Rather, it gets its ground from the center gauge bezel itself. If your bezel is cracked in the usual place, then you won't get a good ground and the wipers won't some on until you press the washer button. Try running a separate ground wire from the switch mounting screw down to the metal reinforcement that the front of the shift console mounts too. If that works, then you can leave the ground wire in place nad be good to go.

            Also check to see that the ground wire is attached to the lug on the motor. They're prone to slipping off. Chuck

              Shannon, Chuck and Chas;
              I will check all of the above, going away this weekend but will get on it first part of next week. These all seem like easy fixes so I hope it is one of these.

              Thanks Again

                Mike:

                If it turns out to not be an electrical problem, you can get an excellent 14 page "Troubleshooting the 1968-1982 Corvette Headlight and Wiper Door Vacuum Systems" writeup with diagrams from Chris Prow. I think it cost $10 delivered. Check it out at www.vettevacuum.com.
