    C1 - Trunk Compartment Paint

I'm in the process of disassembling my '59 trunk components for painting. I noticed that underneath the rear trunk fiberglass panel (held in by 16 phillips screws) that there is quite a lot of exterior body paint overspray. In the past I've always thought that the original paint was applied with this panel in place and hence there would not be overspray underneath the panel.

My question is....were the rear trunk panels painted separately and then installed after the exterior paint was applied? If so, would the 16 phillips head screws NOT be painted?

    Thanks,
    Brad #18060

    Brad,
The exterior paint was, in fact applied prior to the panel being installed. The body was completely painted, buffed and most exterior trim was attached prior to body drop. The panel could not have been in place prior to body drop since this panel would have to be absent to install the rear bumpers and brackets. You are also correct that the screws were not painted.
