Re: C1, 59 Rear Axle inspection Paint, Pictures?
Bill,
My car was judged several times and never took a single point hit for not having inspection marks on it. Normal "as delivered" condition would have the entire chassis blacked out and the rearend was normally completely covered with black paint. Yes, there were yellow paint marks on the center section, but they would have been covered at the end of production.

Re: C1, 59 Rear Axle inspection Paint, Pictures?
I think it should be covered also, but last year i did get deducted for no inspection paint on rear axle. I am going to a regional next month and I am trying to be prepared. I do have the inspection on the front suspension, do you think they assumed it should be on the rear because its on the front?- Top

Re: C1, 59 Rear Axle inspection Paint, Pictures?
Bill,
I put the front marks on my car as well since they were showing when I restored the car. The rear marks were not showing even after 35 years, so I repainted the rear black and didn't bother with the yellow paint. The front marks almost allways showed since the painter could not get to the area of the spindle was marked. I would suggest that whoever judged your chassis was wrong, as the JG clearly states that yellow paint marks MAY show, not WILL show. I would take it up with your team leader (Tim Mickey) and get his opinion on this. I have never been bashfull about protesting a judge's opinion when I thought I was in the right. I had pleasure of restoring a 60 which had hardly ever had a wrench turned on it in 35 years, so I documented every little item as I dismantled the car and attempted to return every item to the way it appeared when I started. The car was a desert car and all the blackout was still in place as well as the inspection marks, driveshaft stencil and the frame stencil. There were many times when I was docked a point or two for something that I knew to be correct, but that is the nature of judging. I made a passionate case for those items that I was sure of, and was successful in reversing most of those deducts. In the end, you just can't be constantly be changing something because only one judge thinks it ought to be that way, since the next judge you have judge it may have a totally different opinion.

Re: C1, 59 Rear Axle inspection Paint, Pictures?
Bil,
I just did my frame and suspension over. Pulled the rear and cleaned it up. what i can tell you is there were yellow inspection marks on top and bottom. the one on top was about 1 1/2 inches wide and went from mid tube to mid tube over the pumpkin. the bottom was the same but only extended a little past the pumpkin. i haven't been judged yet but that was original from the factory. as for blackout everytime i ask about it i get a different answer so i didn't put it on yet, i'll get judged like that then if i have to, squirt the blackout over it.
hope that helps
