eBay cars - I just don't get it.

Here are two that have all indications of being bogus - '66 convertible for 8000$ in the United States and '65 convertible - For Sale $9000 with no bids and eBay hasn't done anything with them.

The '66 for 8000$ is up to $50,000 on the bid (reserve met). The background in the pictures does not look like the same area of the country yet the same seller has both.

Do you think they are real or that eBay has given up?

Ebay isn't paying attention. It's the same old story "buyer beware".

What don't you get? E-Bay is only interested in one thing, making money! As stated earlier, their take on it is "buyer beware", yet when you sign up they make it sound like there is never any trouble, it's safe, etc. If on all purchases above say $100 they insisted you go through a escrow service, it would cut down on the bogus sales, but hey that would take time and time is money.

What I don't get is that there has been a rash of these scams, where the '67 Corvette coupe 427 is offered for $11,000 Buy It Now and location is listed "United States". If you email, you get the letter about it being in Portugal and he will pay shipping and so on.

On these, they were disappearing usually within the day. People sent in the report, eBay pulled them.

However, these two auctions ran to the end. They were missing some details from the previous ads (registered buyer, $3000 Western Union transfer for desposit) but still looked bogus with Buy It Now listed in the text and the Buy It Now prices listed were very low.

The '66 convertible was bid up to around $17,000 and then someone came in with a $50,000 bid. Bet that is bogus, also. Nice car, I doubt $50,000 worth. One clue is "correct 327cu.in.-350Horsepower" instead of "original". The Cassett eplayer, Driver airbag, Cruise Control, CD player, passenger airbag, power door locks, and so on seem that ht elister knows nothing about these old Corvettes.

eBay must have found the ID stolen, but why didn't they pull the auctions?

Best guess is it slipped through the cracks. It's probably hard to check all the auctions, several million a day, so they probably random check and check if there is a complaint. You could ask them, but trying to talk to a real person at E-Bay is the eight wonder of the world. I do know from experience that there so called mediation service "Square Trade" is a joke. If you have a problem you pay them $20.00 to contact other person and straighten it out. However Square Trade has no power to do anything but make suggestions. If the other party doesn't agree, too bad. I had a case where I bought "NOS grille parts" got them and they were used at best. Sent them back, the other party left negative feedback and then they contacted Square Trade. Who knows why. They resold the parts and the next guy sent them back also and told Square Trade same thing I did. The seller was charging an outrageous shipping and handling fee, plus deducting more than E-bay charged for fees. He was making money every time he got the parts back, we showed this to E-Bay and they did nothing. "Buyer Beware"
