C1 - Phillips Screw in Door Panels Ends

I've noticed in some photos and on actual cars that occasionally there are one or two phillips head screws in the narrow end of the door panels just to the rear of the door lock levers. There is a picture of one of these screws on page 19 of the 4th edition of the 58-60 JM. There were none on my original panels nor are there any on my new ones either. Can anyone tell me the purpose of these screws and whether or not they are required for judging? My car is a late '59.
    Thanks,
    Brad

Brad, My humble opinion would be to forget adding any additional screws in your door panels. Best, Dennis

      Brad,

My '58 has the two phillips screws at the end of the upper door panel. There are also two metal brackets attached to the door that receive the screws. I'm not sure if this set up is unique to '58's or not. Check to see if you have the brackets or if there are screw holes in the fiberglass.

        Brad,
The screws you are talking about are used only on a 58 model year. In 58, the upper metal panels were a separate piece and was secured with screws on the edges. After 58, the upper metal was a integral piece of the door panel and the entire panel was held in with only face-mounted screws.

          John,
Thanks much for the very informative answer. It never ceases to amaze me how much I continue to learn about these cars after all these years of ownership. About 34 years to be exact!
