Dropped a drive shaft in my 67 and cracked the tranny case. Am looking for a bolt in replacement and does not need to be numbers matching. Can anyone tell me what I might need for a replacement and send me in the right direction to find one reasonable. It was a 4 speed, close ratio M21, I believe. I live in Ohio and would like to get it back on the road before it warms up [if it ever does].Thanks Larry

Did you crack the main case, extension housing, or both? In any event, you have, basically, 2 options:
1) Purchase used pieces from a transmission parts dealer. A main case will likley be in the $100-150 range. An extension housing in the $75-125 range. Any 66-74 main case will work for you and any late 65 thru 1970 extension housing will work. Main cases and extension housings are long-since discontinued from GM;
2) Purchase a NEW main case and/or extension housing as manufactured by Auto-Gear of Syracuse, NY. These pieces are not NCRS/NCCB "correct", but they are FAR better than the original Muncie pieces. They're not cheap as the main case is about $300 and the extension housing about $150. But, if you want a real high quality case that eliminates most of the problems associated with original style cases, these are what you need. Plus, the parts will be NEW. Used cases can suffer from a variety of problems which can end up costing as much as a new Auto Gear case to correct. These cases are like parts of a Swiss watch; truly MAGNIFICENT compared to original cases.
You can purchase the above, either the used or the Auto Gear cases, from Larry Fischer at D&L Transmissions (www.muncie4speed.net). Larry will give you as good of a deal on these parts as anyone and he'll provide you with great service and ADVICE, if you need it.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
