After driving my '69 small block, a fluid appears on the front left fender. The fluid seems to be splashed on the fender and flows from the hood toward the rear of the car and to the outer edge of the fender. There is no fluid on the underside of the hood or in the fender channel. The fluid wipes off easily with a damp cloth and does not appear on the cloth after wiping. I have checked for coolant, brake fluid, oil and fan clutch leaks and find none. The windshield washer system has been dry for 30 years. The car is not equipped with power steering, power brakes or air conditioning. I taped the edges of a piece of white paper to the fender to determine the fluid color. The fluid did not appear on the paper, but was on the fender beneath the paper. Does anyone have a fix for this annoying problem? Thanks

Re: C3 - Fluid on Front Left Fender
I haven't gotten to the glass work on my 68 yet but from past experiences with body fillers from my body shop days, I'll venture a poser.
Does the water appear in the same spot every time? If so, you might be dealing with trapped water between delaminated fiberglass layers that MAY be trapping water and then allowing it to work it's way up through a hair line split on the fender. Then with either driving or just by osmosis, the water works it's way out onto the fender surface.
I had this happen once where bondo separated and trapped water through a trim molding hole (not my work )
You didn't speak to just how much fluid we're talking about, but if you wash the car regularly or if it's left outside, it just may be where it's comming from.
Anti-freeze or brake fluid would have been a dead give away out of the gates as they would have eaten into your finishes and are slippery to the touch.
Again, just a thought.
Let me know what you find.

Chuck, I'm glad you came up with a theory. I was beginning to think that James' car was possessed by "poultergeists", and the stuff oozing through his left front fender was "ectoplasm". I was going to suggest he needed an exorcisim or a team of paranormal psychologists.- Top

Re: C3 - Fluid on Front Left Fender
When the headlight buckets start spinning out of control, start dripping oil out the T3s and the interior glows bright green, I think I'd be inclined to put it on ebay and look for another one
Sorry Jim, I'm poking a little fun, but not at you, that Sanger (whaever his last name is) Guy started it
I'll bet there are more than a few of us who think their rides ARE possessed in some way, shape, form or another. I have quite the lil devil of my own!!

Re: C3 - Fluid on Front Left Fender (for C. Rice)
Response to Chuck Rice: Thanks for your comments. Your fix made more sense than anything I, or anyone in our Corvette club, has come up with. the problem with your fix is the car does not get wet very often. It has not been taken out in rain or snow since 1970; although, on rare occasions, I have gotten caught in a shower. It is always kept in a garage and is washed with a hose only once or twice a year. Other times it is wiped with a wet cloth and dried immediately. The paint is original. It was a topflight at the St Louis regional and a bowtie candidate at Hershey. If you are inclined, and if they are still posted, it is on page 218 of the Hershey photos. Again, thanks for your help.- Top
