My '64 driver is not ready for judging yet although will likely be in a year or two. Having too much fine driving it now. In anticipation of having the car eventually flight judged, I am gradually returning parts back to their original configuration. The present coil is some odd looking light tan piece that although appears to be working fine is just plain ugly. Even though the shielding hides it, it bugs me. I want to return to an original Delco. Can someone provide me the Delco coil # that would be best for my car. It's a 327/365 hp engine. Also, I saw in one Corvette supplier catalog a Delco coil but said it must be used with an external coil resistor. Can someone shed some light on that as well. Thanks, David

Re: Advice Needed on C2 Ignition Coil
All C-2 Corvettes except those equipped with TI used an external resistor in series with the coil primary winding. The puropse is to drop the operating voltage at the coil to a lower level during normal operation to reduce the temperature rise in the coil and extend it's life. There is a circuit in the wiring to bypass this resistor during starting whcih is a feature of every GM car fo as long as I can remember. The correct coil for a '64 365hp engine is the "091" coil (1115091) which is difficult to find as NOS but is available in reproduction.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: Advice Needed on C2 Ignition Coil
After reading your response I pulled that catalogue back out. I didn't realize that the white 'block' on the firewall was the resistor, I was thinking it was something mounted on the coil which didn't make sense to me. Now I get it. But back to my original post, if I don't want to spend the extra cash for a '091' repro but want to instead stick with a genuine Delco coil that migh not have the same markings, what part number should I be looking for. Or perhaps there isn't much difference in price between the two (doubtful). I'll look up the 091 to see how much they are. I assume the 091 is not exact and would result in some sort of a deduct anyway. Is that a safe assumption? Thanks for the info.- Top

Re: Advice Needed on C2 Ignition Coil
The service coils was the "202" coil used in 1965-67, and I beleive a version is ttill sold under the AC-Delco trademark by GM, but they are not built on the original tooling and do not look much like the originals. Good used coils are an alternative as the 202 had broad pasenger car application also.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: Advice Needed on C2 Ignition Coil
If it's the "091" coil you need (and I believe this is the case), Goat Hill and the other usual Corvette vendors sell them. Don't know how well they judge. They are approximately $125. I believe Goat Hill has the best prices, but check the other vendors too. Sometimes if you're buying other parts, the total price of which exceeds some dollar value, you get a discount. Some people have reported problems with Goat Hill deliveries in the past. But I haven't heard much lately.
Delco still sells a service replacement coil for this application. Looks close to the original. Doesn't say "091" on it. Does say "Delco" on it. Does say made in someplace other than the USA on it. Something odd about a part that says, "Made in Mexico" or "Made in China" on a Corvette. Around $30. Your FLAPS, Jegs, and Summit will also have plain black coils for around $30.- Top

Re: Advice Needed on C2 Ignition Coil
Your local junk yard should have old delco coils off gm cars and trucks of the 60's.You'll probably not find a 091 but nearly all delco's of the 60's will substitute adequatly(don't get on off a TI equipped 60's gm.) mike- Top

Re: Advice Needed on C2 Ignition Coil
Chris and David------
The reproduction coils manufactured and sold by Goat Hill include a reproduction "can" with appropriate embossing, new innerds, and a "reclaimed" original Delco top/tower section. All of this is assembled with new seals. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
