C3 BB Cast Date format

I have a question about the format on the 3935439 427 block. The 68 TM&JG tells me the format is letter for the month, digits for the day and year. They give the example of A279 being Jan. 27, 1969. This makes sense and looks like the format on my SB 66 which is A176...Jan 17, 1966. On the BB, the code is (or looks like) F22* 8, where the * is a slotted screw head. I think this is what I am seeing. The assy date for this motor is July 8th, so F22 makes sense as June 22. It's just that the book doesn't go into enough detail about this thing that looks like a screw head.

Am I looking at the right thing or am I "screwy"

BTW, I am looking at the right spot, forward of the starter on the pass side near the mount.
