    1960 Soft Top Pad Fasteners

I removed the old soft top last night and now see the condition of the 6/32 machine screws with "slip rings" (special shaped washers)that held the pad to the bows. What was the purpose of the slip rings or washers under the screws? I assume it was to keep the screws from tearing the pad cover.

What could be used in place of the slip rings that could be purchased at a local hardware store? I guess the easy solution would be to buy a complete set of screws and washers for around $12.00 and forget about it! Advice would be greatly appreciated.

most auto trim/upholstry shops will have the trim washers--whethter they will sell or give you enough to replace the pads is ? . the trim washers spread the contact area over a larger surface area than just the machine screw would, hence reducing likelihood of tearing pads. mike
