    62 PG slipping problem

Beginning to get some slippage when the transmission gets warmed up real good. Have always had a problem with the fluid leaking out when the car sits for extended periods. Is there any addative you can think of that would help? It's still all original and I'm trying hard not to have it rebuilt, if possible.

    Try adjusting the bands.
Lucas makes an additive that may help the slip and will also help the leak.

If your getting slippage when it warm up , sounds like the clutch piston seal is leaking causing the clutch piston to shut slowly. Leaking can be a hard filler tube O-ring bad.A 62 aluminum trans. is as simple as it get to rebuild.A kit is about $100.00. Believe me if you can do any mechanical work your self , you can rebuild that trans. Common seance will help you understand it as you take it apart and rebuild it. Why spend thousands to do a hundred dollar job you your self can do and have the satisfaction you did it .Just get a old 62 up PG overhaul book.

Roy is correct, probably have broken/cracked seals. And yes, PG's are easy to rebuild, just a pain to get in and out of the car. Try a can of KW "Trans-X" first. If the seals are not too far gone it will expand and soften them. Just remember that Trans-x is a band aid and not a permanent repair.

            Mike,
The old cast iron PG trans is just as easy to rebuild. Roy's modesty is probably preventing him from telling you that he made a real good video that shows how to rebuild one step-by-step! C Central used to sell them. I think I still have a copy and if you let me know when you need it, I will lend you mine.

            Regards, John McGraw
