    C1 59: Screw heads ?

    Hi all,

I've been disabled a bit since Sunday (got a conifer branch into my eye) but I have been able to upload many more vintage ads and some new articles to the C1Registry site.

In the meanwhile I was wondering about the following. Why are philips head and clutch head screws mixed used on the C1's ? E.g. the horn relay wants two philips head screws while the ballast resistor and hood support are mounted using the clutch headed screws.

Is there somewhere a list of which screws/bolds to use for each item/object + its finishing/color ? I could publish this list in the C1Registry knowledge base section (to be setup) if wished...

    greetings,
    Rob.

    Rob,
There have been several people who have tried to compile such a list. Richard Brodeur has probably done the best job that I have seen, but even his list will not be accurate in all cases. Some bolts and screws changed from year to year and even day to day! There are many fasteners that were used on 59 cars that had a totally different fastener by the second month of 1960 production. The ballast resistor that you mentioned is a perfect example, my early 60 car had already made the switch to a phillips head screw for the ballast resistor. The splash pans on your car are held by clutch head screws, while my early 60 car had TR head mark hexhead capscrews. The list goes on and on. It is a very daunting task!
