    C2 Clock Movement Replacement

I am replacing a quartz movement in the clock of my '66 with a mechnical movement. My question is - how do I remove the time adjustment stem? Are there any other tricks or words of wisdom I need to know before I get into this?
    thanks, Sam

Sam, I assume you are trying to remove the unit from the housing/glass. I don't believe you need to remove the stem, just the knob at the end. I suggest a pair of plier's with the teeth well wrapped in electrical tape. This will eliminate scratching the stem with the plier's. Get a grip on the stem with the plier's then unscrew the knob. Sometimes you need a second set of wrapped plier's to turn the knob.

      Sam:

Good advice........it is a simple and straightforward job. A word to the wise. Once you go back to the old mechanical movement, make sure that you install a batt cutoff switch on your negative batt terminal. Two reasons for this:

      1. The constant rewinding of the clock mechanism will quickly drain your battery.
      2. The constant rewinding of the clock mechanism will cause routine wear-and-tear on the contact points and rewind solenoid. If you remove power to the clock, you will greatly extend its life.

Joe and Harry, thanks very much. I'll finish the clock this evening and I've had a cut off switch for years. Wouldn't do without it. Sam

Joe, Your advice is well taken. Those of us who have quartz conversions have even more to fear as the battery will be drawn down quickly if connected, also. The quartz clock "runs all the time' like your kitchen clock, so they're drawing power constantly, not every few minutes as an original mechanical clock would do.

            Don:

I can see your logic, but the quartz movement, although it runs constantly, draws considerably less current than the mechanical movement. Consider any household clock, which will run on a single AA battery (1.5V), for about 2 years.
