    69 corvette mono radio.

Hi, I am fixing up what I believe is a 69 mono radio. I need information on the speaker lead wires. It has the three wires that go to the transitor (blue, green and yellow). They are intact. But there are two sets of green and black wires that are cut off. I believe these leads were supposed to be about ten inches long in 69. I was told the radio came out of a 69 and it had 69 radio knobs on it when I got it. The lable is missing. Does this sound like a 69 mono? Or, is it difficult to tell considering the information? Thanks, Terry

    (1) The radio's PN and Delco Remy model number were on a sticker on the outside of the chassis. Both changed over the years as minor changes and improvements were made to the radio. If your chassis lacking the factory original sticker, try opening the chassis to look for a second, often there was a component placement ID label inside where either the PN or model number were repeated. Given either the PN or model number of the set you have, we can confirm/deny its correctness for your '69 Corvette.

    (2) On the convector, yes there are three wires running from the radio chassis to the DS-501 audio drive transistor on the convector. The output from the transistor consisted of two sets of green/black wire pairs which ended in mating connectors to plug in to the captive wiring connectors on the speaker pigtails. Lengths varied for RH/LH dash speakers.

These were typically 'cut' from the convector when 'Bubba' decided to install an aftermarket radio and wanted to outfit that radio's bare, unterminated speaker lead wires with in-line connectors to match the factory original radio speakers.

Check out a scrap yard for a Chevelle you can pirate similar radio speaker interconnect wires from OR simply hard-wire your RH/LH speakers to what remains of the convector's speaker pig tails. Don't ya love Bubba!

      Re: 69 corvette mono radio.

Thanks for the reply. I will look inside for a part number. Any idea what the correct length was for the speaker leads for a 69 mono radio. Someone tried to tell me that 69 had only 3 speaker wires coming out of the back of the radio, two green and one black all joined together. I think he was mistaken. I think that configuration started when the speakers started being installed in the dash pad. Any more comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Terry
