    1969 Stock Tires and Wheels

I wanted to put near original size tires on my 1969. They came with F70-15s, so I thought either 205 70-15s or 215 70 15s would work. The problem is that the 205s can only go on 5 to 7 inch rims and the 215s only work on 5.5 to 7.5 inch rims. Mine are 8 inch, which I think is stock and which evidently worked for the F70-15s.

225 70-15s will work on the rims, but I'm afraid they'll rub against the wheel wells. Will these work, or should I look at other options. Thanks.

The 215/70R-15 has the same revs per mile - 775 - as the OE F70-15, however, since the wheels are 8" wide I recommend a 225/70R-15, specifically one of
the three V-rated "police pursuit tires". There should be no clearance problems, and the '69s have the same speedometer gearing as pre -'65s, which ran a 760 revs per mile tire, the 6.70-15. Coincidentally most 225/70R-15s are also speced at 760 revs per mile.

If anything, your speedometer will be closer to dead-on with 225/70s. With the OE tires it was probably about 2 percent high.

225/70R-15 will work fine on your car. I installed a set of Goodyears and a set of Michleins both on '72's. No rubbing what so ever. And they fill out the fenders like the F-70's

Bill, I have 225-70-15 Goodyears on my 1969 and never had any rubbing problems. In fact they fill the wheelwells just like F 70's. Bob
