    '67 STARTER MOTOR/BENDIX REPLACEMENT

After sliding the bendix on, there is a retainer and snap ring to install. If I put the retainer on first and then the snap ring, the ring is not tight in the groove. It appears that the retainer compresses the ring, holding it tight in the groove. If I put the ring in the retainer and then try to install it, they separate during installation. How do I install these pieces correctly?

You put it on over the grove and push it into the retainer.
