Hi, Has anyone noticed any variations in the front airdam that are being reproduced for 68 to 72 corvette. I attempted test fit my airdam to the front lower valance panel and was disappointed to find the hole location to be off. The holes are in the right location horizontally but the one's on the new airdam are about a 1/2" lower compared to the hole location on the valance. I never had my original airdam since it was missing from the car when I purchased it. My front valance panel is original, not replaced. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Terry

I believe that the "reproduction" to which you refer is actually a GM piece. GM still SERVICES the 68-72 front extension ("air dam") under GM #3974013.
The original extension used for 1968 and 1979 was GM #3932933. This piece was discontinued from SERVICE in May, 1970 and was replaced by the 70+ PRODUCTION part, GM #3974013. That part has been available from GM to SERVICE all 1968-72 Corvettes ever since. I believe that the part number change (and, associated differences) is what causes the fitment problem for 68 and 69 models. However, the part can be made to work with no problem. After 36 years, the fact that you can still obtain such a part from GM is quite amazing in itself. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 68 corvette front lower air dam.
Thanks for the info. Now I wondering if anyone is reproducing an accurate replacement for 68 and 69. If not, I will make it work otherwise. I have looked at some of the pictures in the numerous catalogs, some show different hole configurations (round vs oval). I wonder if they are the correct version? Maybe there is a good used one out there? Thanks, Terry- Top

Re: 68 corvette front lower air dam.
I'm not sure of the current state of the air dam(n), but at one time the part number was embossed in the passenger side end. Then for a while there were some with bumps on the back of the reinforcing ridge about every inch or so. Kind of like the projections on new tires. Either feature was obvious to judges. I believe the bumps were removable with minor effort, but that part number was for keeps.Terry- Top

Joe, my feeble memory fails me, but when I was a parts vendor, there was at least one supplier other than GM. I have researched the suppliers that I thought it might be, but they do not list themDick Whittington- Top
