    C-3 Engine ID question

    List members,
I have the following engine in my garage that I was told is a 1969 350 cubic inch small block. I need help in identifying this motor and its value as I am considering selling it and don't know what I have or what it is worth.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Casting #: 3970010
    Date code: K 25 4
    Other number: CE5N25983
I was told by a local car guy who looked at it that it has a 4 bolt main

I purchased it new from Chevrolet many years ago and was told at the time it was a correct 68 engine but have learned since that CE means a parts department replacement engine. Obviously I didn't know what I was buying at the time.

Any suggestions what this engine is?
    Thank you in advance,
    Kurt Bunting #26406

      Kurt------

In addition to what Bill mentioned, the GM #3970010 block was used from late 1969 through about 1985 on all sorts of Chevrolet 350 cid applications. It was also used for later 1969 302 (Z-28) engines. In PRODUCTION, it was never used for any 327 application. However, it could be used for a 327 application as long as a 68-69 large journal 327 crank is used. Of course, it wouldn't be "correct" for any 327, but it would be 100% functional. In fact, it's possible that this block was used for 327 SERVICE applications, so it's possible that what you have is what you were originally told----a 327 SERVICE engine assembly. It's easy to tell. Just look at the crankshaft casting/forging number. If the number is "3932442" or "3941182", then you have a 350 cid engine. If the number is "3911001", "3911011", "3914672" (you should be so lucky), or "3941174", then it's a 327.

        Re: C-3 Engine ID question

You have an engine that was a service engine.

        CE - Chevrolet Engine
        5 - 1975
        N - not sure
25983 - the 25,983rd engine build in Flint for service use.

        Cast K 25 4 => Nov. 25, 1974
