    Autolite fuel filter for '62-340?

Took the beast to the shop this morning, got a bunch of things sorted out. The hard starting probably had something to do with the general lack of intact conductors between the battery and starter solenoid B terminal, the cable insulation was bubbling from the current through the remaining 20 or so strands..... That and the green wire from the C terminal to the ballast resistor was flapping in the breeze. I'm sure he was looking at me like I'm a dummy, but hey, I am.... Now, with that and an adjusted choke and the right timing, she starts right up, even after 20 miles on the highway. Hoo-ray!

He also noted that he wasn't crazy about the original GF-48 filters, he's seen too many engine fires from them. Since this is not a top-flight car, he recommended that I get an Autolite fuel filter that was used on some Ford 2 bbl carb that was used on Mavericks, etc. He said it fits under the air cleaner ok and screws right in between the pump-to filter line and the nipple on the AFB. Has anyone ever heard of this, and might know the part number for said filter? I know, sacrilege, but I'd hate to burn the car to the ground now that it actually starts.... Thanks for any input!

The GF-48 was good enough for Ford to use them on T-birds. Watch out you don't go backwards trying to go foreword

Yeah, I kind of figured the request would be seen as a bit of sacrilege. Sorry for the offended sensibilities.

          What size connection?

My mis-spent youth includes COrvettes and Mustangs. Late 66-up Autolite filters on most applications had a 5/16 hose nipple inlet, and connected to the carb via a tapered pipe thread. Earlier applications had a special carb connection machined to fit into an inverted flare connection which would ordinarily have a flare tube connected directly. I never heard of a fire caused by either of these filters. A little laquer thinner on either of these and you would have an unlabeled, yellow or clear cad inlet filter most people would never recognize. (except now everyone who reads this!)

            Rob:

Don't be sorry. Just havin' some fun. Besides, F--d uses some really neat sutff, like the tires on the mid 90's Explorer. I mean it, I had one, and the tires never blew up. In fact I got a brand new set of Goodyears......FREE! I hated to part with a perfectly good LOOKING set of tires.
My first car was a 1963 1/2 (fastback) Galaxie 500 with the 352 "boat anchor" engine. The counterpart to Chevrolet's 348 "boat anchor" engine. These were both smaller versions of Ford's 390, and Chevy's 409, respectively. Both were stout "truck motors", but not high performers. Anyway, that Galaxie was red, with black interior. I had the top painted black. Boy, that was a pretty car........wish I had it today.
Use the Autolite fuel filter, just paint it black like the GF90 (heh, heh)
