    Vent Window Regulators

I am interested in having my vent window regulators rebuilt. Can somebody recommend who provides this type of service and any comments on the quality of the work performed.

    Thanks

Why do you want your vent window regulators rebuilt? Judges cannot inspect originality since they're behind door panels....

If it's because they aren't working or there's excessive 'slop' in crank mech, why not replace 'em? Catalog houses list NOS replacement parts at NOSEBLEED prices ($200 each), but that's for the uneducated.

Restorer has run two very good articles on vent regulators that gets you to the point of pulling a screwdriver/wrench and marching off to your local scrap yard. Same part in other GM cars/trucks (IF you know the ID marks to check for) and you can find EXCELLENT replacement parts out there inexpensively.

Just last Friday, a cherry old '62 Pontiac Catalina with 28K actual miles came chugging into a local yard here. The 'little old lady' was real and recently deceased. EVERYTHING in this car that was plated looked like the day it was built. The regulators were fresh and matched those from a '63 Corvette coupe.

I stripped 'em in 15 minutes for $15 (the pair) and donated 'em to another NCRS RMC member who was 'hurting' like you at cost. So, I have to question again why you want to re-build your originals....

They're riveted together and that's one area (rivet integrity) that wears and generates 'slop'. But, inside there are gears that wear as well. Getting anyone to drill out rivets, replace worn components for you, and re-seal just CAN'T be economic compared to $15 a pair at the scrap yard!
