    CAM -2 Fuel

    Folks,

Getting close to getting my 1963 Z06 back! I have been advised to run a mixture of UNLEADED and CAM-2. What kind of mixture would folks recommend? Something along the lines of 3 or 4 to 1?

Also, for anyone in the Baltimore, MD area - where can I buy CAM-2?

It depends on what the actual CR is and what cam you installed. Did you measure the dimensions you need to compute CR like deck clearance and head gasket compressed thickness? The LT-1 cam will handle more compression than the Duntov cam.

Many run SHP/FI engines on pump premium with just slight timing adjustment. If the CR is high you may need to blend in some high octane race gas or 100LL avgas, but I doubt if more than 25 percent would be necessary in any case.

Cam-2 octane level is 110 so you can use a mix ratio that will get you to the octane level you desire. It's distributed here in Ohio at 'Speedway' gas stations, owned by Marathon oil. The pump is off to the side of the station and has a very short hose so that you cannot pump it directly into a car. It has to go into a gasoline container, due to legal reasons of selling leaded gasoline. I use it occasionally (diluted) and it is a very noticeable difference in performance. Using it straight would probably require wings. It's still around $4 per gallon and doesn't seem to move as much as 'regular' fuel.

Rick, I buy Cam2 online and have it delivered in 5 gal containers by UPS. I use one 5 gal per tankful the rest unleaded premium and a bottle of Lead Supreme 130. I have a 66' with factory 427/425 with about 11:1 CR and it runs well. Let me know if you want online sites to purchase the CAM2 & Lead additive.

There is a gas station on the corner of Rt.27 and Rt.108 called Tucker's Gas and Go in Damascus, Maryland that sells Cam 2 racing fuel, 110 octane at $3.50 a gallon. All the racers stop there on the way up to 75-80 Dragway. Went by there today. PT

Heck, that price is not bad, unleaded premium just hit $2.33 per gallon at Circle K (Union 76) yesterday in Tucson. We had a basic 18 cent hike in all of our prices in the past 2-3 days...... Craig

Rick, I just got back from 4 days in Baltimore. I attended a seminar on Land Development.

I use 93 Octane unleaded and then add a some of the lead supplement that Jack Podell sells, I have been using this since he started selling it.

Did you rebuild your engine with the two sets of head gaskets like Chevy did to lower the CR?
