Re: I've got holes in my 59

Ted, from what I have observed in my 70 AIM, I would say that the final "sign-off" date on AIM drawings may precede the actual implementation of changes by several months; the changes did not happen immediately. Assuming GM's procedures remained the same from the late fifties until 1970, a June time-frame for the actual implementation would be about right, and would fit with the holes being absent in July 59 as mentioned by John McGraw.

Chuck, I understand. A number of years ago I used to do a little drafting which sure helps when looking at the AIMs. At times you need the proceeding year's AIM to piece together the right view as to what is appropriate for the given car. Like in this case the drawing in my '58 AIM doesn't show the holes because they had been removed in the last revision on 3-23-59. The initial date on the drawing looks like 6-26-57, so you could easily miss that the holes were there all through the '58 model year. Anyway it sounds like we solved the mysterious "Siberian Heater" holes as a valid production item and we all learned something new about the C1s.

John, Is there another number close? The 5 maybe a 9 or 3749911. The numbers are pretty clear on the copy I have.

Wow, this created a lot more discussion than I thought would come of it. I guess it makes sense then that my car has the holes since it is a January '59 car. Thanks to all for helping clarify the matter, and I'm glad that my 1st post on your forum could turn into a learning experience for each of us.

          Regards,

          Wes
