    Re: c2 tires

A G78-15 was never used on a Corvette. The '64 size is 6.70-15 and reproductions are available, but will cost some points because the legally required DOT labeling will be a tipoff that they are repros.

If you plan on driving your car recommend you buy a set of '67 6" Rally wheel repros and mount at least "H" rated 215/70R-15s, and save the 6.70-15s for judging. Your OE wheel covers will snap onto the Rally wheels.

          Re: c2 tires

Tire size & make is covered in the Standard Deduction tables of the NCRS Judging Reference Manual (the 'white' book). Of course, if tires are actually factory original (non-DOT, 6.70x15, from original OEM supplier to Corvette, and of the models listed in the Judging Guide) and in reasonable condition, you can expect no deduction. But, finding these critters is a tall order.

Then, there are reproduction tires (still 6.70x15, with original OEM supplier marks, and current DOT certification rating). These will give you UP TO 90% in terms of originality depending on how close to the actual original tire (tread pattern, sidewall marks and whitewall width/placement) the repro really is. Deratings from there (correct in all respects EXCEPT for DOT marking) are covered in the Standard Deduct table.

A G78 radial will be viewed as a 'service replacement' tire, and deductions, as provided by the Standard Deduct table, will apply based on size, mfgr, Etc. It's a question of how close does a given tire resemble the factory original tread shipped with the car and a G78 is definitely NOT a factory original tire.

The tire this person is trying to sell are not for your Corvette, Repro. tire are good for judging but say DOT on them and will cost you points. The best thing is to get yourself a NCRS judging manual, and find the type of tires(BSW or WSW) and try to find orig. Good Luck!
