    C1 59: Trunk question

    Hi all,

I'm currently finishing the trunk area of our car. Just painted the wooden plate covering the spare tire. In the JG is stated that three pieces of foam are glued to this plate (on the underside). Where were these for and how are they glued onto this plate? Are these pressing the jack down or are these pieces of foam pressing onto the tire wall? Were they glued in the direction of the edge of the plate or 90 degrees rotated to the edge of the round plate?

    thanks for the advice,
    Rob.

The foam put enough pressure on the jack to keep it from rattling. Glue foam to board with weatherstrip adhesive or similar contact cement. I would have to remove the board to look at my foam, but from what I remember they are clustered near the center in a triangle shape.

Rob, That is the most beautiful spare cover...

... board I've ever seen. Joe's description of rubber placement is accurate. May I suggest that after you glue them in place, you spread some kind of silicone grease on the portion of the rubber that will contact the jack. This will prevent the problems I've had in the past where the rubber sticks to the jack over time and makes a big mess when you try to remove the spare cover. Again, your spare cover is a work of art... Best, Dennis
