Not sure which carpet supplier to use. Also, thinking of putting koolmat under the carpet. Thoughts, comments?
romeo or ACC?

Re: romeo or ACC?
if your vette is a c-1,2 0r 3, then insulation(kool-mat etc) will be a welcome addition. if its to be judged, be certain the judges can't detect it. Whereas newer cars tend to be an improvement over their "fathers", floor pan heat deflection tended to be better in the c-1, got worse with the c-2 and the c-3's were despicable. think i'd rather carry a ford than ride in a non-c60 C-3 on the 4th of july.mike- Top

Re: romeo or ACC?
you'll probably have to significantly diminish the thickness of the jute to allow the molded carpet to "fit" the car. I've taken this approach(thinning the Jute) on vettes i've Duntov'd but the act of rueducing the jute's thickness was such a pain, i just installed the thinned jute in areas that the judges could inspect. i doubt you'll get good carpet fit with the Koolmat(about 3/8" thick as i recall) and the full thickness jute(another 3/8 to 1/2" thick). good luck, mike- Top

Re: ACC?
This is rather timely as I plan to install carpet in my C2 in a day or two.
Are there a limited number of companies making carpet for say the C2? My carpet is made by ACC, has some paperwork denoting Corvette Central and I purchased it from Ecklers. Go figure. Lots of hands to pass through with everyone adding a bit of profit. Live and learn..
I purchased the jute for sound deadening purposes but will not install it as it is too bulky, just at Mike noted. I understand that Home Depot sells a thermal barrier product that is aluminum foil layered with something else. I plan to take a look at it.
Best regards,

Well, since we can't seem to get a C#...
I only do the skinny foil stuff - and - I only do it under the floor area - not the console. It just does not conform well in that area. In C1's, the muffs are directly under the floor area anyway. The big thick bulky stuff - I've done 1 car with that - and, that was enough. Way too thick for me... Best, Dennis- Top

Re: Well, since we can't seem to get a C#...
The options are yours and here goes some input.
From info I have received in the past year if you have time Romeo can furnish good quality carpet. Their delivery time is months approaching 12 months. ACC can deliver but their carpet tends not to fit very well presently. After years of delivering great fitting carpet I have received two sets for 66-67 roadsters and the fit of the rear carpet was not acceptable. I believe the carpet sent me was for a ford product or something foreign to a Corvette. Had to take it to the upholstery shop to have it cut and rebound. Threw away the jack cover and had it made in the upholstery shop. So much for ACC quality. Since Jack Holland sold out the profits have increased and the quality has ran the other way.
OK, for the heat shield (sound deadner). If you want it cool inside, driveable and comfortable on a hot day with AC go to the thick stuff with foil on both sides. This is for people who want to enjoy their Corvettes and don't give a flip about NCRS judging.
If you want to have it judged, forget about comfort and order the original padding. It's a trailer queen now anyway!
Just my two cents worth. I will deny that I ever posted this information as someone has infiltrated my computer and stole my password.

Re: Well, since we can't seem to get a C#...
Another option is to use Al Knoch carpet. (doesn't have jute backing), order the jute kit and fit it in with the koolmat. Used AK seat/ foam before. Good quality. Haven't heard about his carpet though.
My 70 is no trailer queen, but I have this thing about finding and using original parts. Thanks for all the input.- Top

Re: Well, since we can't seem to get a C#...
I am ready to order Carpet for a 67 Roadster that I plan to have judged.
I follow this forum and it appears no one has been happy with their recent purchases. Has anyone recently bought a carpet set that is right?
It appears quality has taken a back seat to price.
Thanks in advance!- Top

Re: romeo or ACC?
Dennis, just finished my 66 roadster carpet. Bought it from Long Island, not sure of manufacturer by the time it gets repackaged. Fronts were molded well and fit nice over jute set I bought separate. Rear sides were a bit challenging, rear center and jack cover very good. Quality of weave is ok, color good. Overall came out well. Joe- Top
