61-62 license lens on eBay, $45.00. 61-62 license lens in Eckler's catalog, $16.75. The willingness of Corvette owners to pay riducles prices for parts, aparently priceless.

Re: More eBay madness
Ed - it's not limited to just Corvette parts either. People loose their sesne of reality on auctions, just like gambling. I have seen many tools sell for 1.5X new at times too, although there are bargains too....Craig- Top

Re: More eBay madness
Here's how it goes....someone wants an item and decides they'll only bid so much for it. As the bidding goes higher, they decide to go a little higher since they don't have to get in their car and go to a store for it... Then, they go a little higher, after all, it's being delivered right to their door...then, when it's already higher then they had decided to go, they think it's silly to lose out on the auction for only a couple of dollars....then, they decide they don't have the time to wait to find another one, after all, who know's when another will come up....then, pretty soon it's about winning
the auction itself, after all, they've spent the time watching it all week, why let it go now. I've sold a lot of vette parts on ebay, and of course bought many too. I have to admit, there have been a few rare, original parts I'm sorry I passed up that I haven't seen again. Unfortunately some sellers(and buyers)don't know the difference between used original, nos, new, reproduction and replacement.- Top

Re: More eBay madness
Yep, and there are plenty of folks that don't really know what something is worth, or want it anyway. Personally, I have never figured why some people keep going back with the small incremental bids.....I just snipe my maximum amount in the last seconds of the auction. Anything else just elevates the price, and gets a bidding frenzy going.....Craig- Top

Re: More eBay madness
Hey, I have a set that look just like that that I bought for $15.00 plus shipping. They are used and in very nice condition. Are you familiar with the window cranks for that year? Was that shape knob only used in 67? The knobs I have were represented as early 68. I will probably post a question about this because I will sell mine on ebay if they are not correct for my car. I would be a fool not to. Thanks for the post!- Top

Re: More eBay madness
I will say this about ebay and car restoration, I wish it was around to the extent it is now when I started restoring my car. Almost all the parts i've needed over the last 4 or 5 years have been on ebay at one time or another. I've always asked for additional or close-up pics of the items I've been interested in, which the sellers have been willing to send me. I only received one part, (which turned out not be the one pictured), that was not what it was supposed to be and the seller had it picked up and reimbursed me for all costs, including shipping. Paypal has turned out to be a nice thing to use. It gives the seller immediate payment, which means quicker shipping to the buyer. If you decide to use it, DO NOT BECOME VERIFIED, which means the money comes directly and immediatly out of your bank account, limiting any recourse for any problems later to paypal itself. Although it might allow you to have a higher limit, it takes away the option of disputing any charges directly with your credit card company, who will take it off your bill until the problem is solved.- Top

Re: More eBay madness
I also am SHOCKED at what some of the parts on Ebay go for.
But I have found allot of N.O.S. parts that I could not of found other wise. So I guess you have to be an educated shopper. There is an active discussion on another Vette forum, we were discussing the quality of reproduction parts and the problem with finding correct reproduction parts that fit so it seems what other choice do we have except purchase N.O.S parts, and what better market place then Ebay. Again you have to be an educated consumer. When I am searching for a part on Ebay I use the part number for a search. I have found several parts I have purchased by not searching just under the corvette part searches. Some folks have the parts but have no idea what they belong to and that is how I have found all of my Ebay deals
Me personally use an auction sniper on all my purchases. It bids in the last 5 seconds of an auction, or if the auction ends on a Sunday night I give it a lead-time of 8 seconds.- Top

Growing eBay madness - car prices
This is a nice looking car, but $41,700?
Granted, this is no doubt part of the bidding game that many play, bid like crazy as long as you are under the reserve. I guess some get a kick that they can be involved in bidding and that is all they are interested in.
The car, BTW, is wrong engine, wrong hood, wrong gauges, etc., and is of course "restored".

Re: More eBay madness
Becoming verified has nothing to do with your payment method - when you pay, just click on "Optional Payment Method" (which is your credit card if you have set it up that way), and payment is made against your credit card. They hide this in the small print, as they'd prefer you pay direct from your bank account so they don't have to pay the card issuer fee. I'm verified, and have done it this way for many years.- Top

Re: More eBay madness
John is exactly right! I also pay from my card rather than my bank account just to cover any problems that I might have with the seller. Whenever you are verified, the default payment option is allways from your account, but you can over-ride that option. Getting verified is not really an option, since once you hit the $1000 dollar mark, they will shut down your account unless you verify your identity. It is some sort of banking regulation that is meant to prevent money laundering, I believe.
