    78 Hood Alignment

    George,

Thanks. Gleaned the info from both responses. What I had sort of been getting around to was the way the 67 dates appeared on the 68 rims (pre-January). Then my curiosity got the best of me when you said the "no dates" on your new deal. I had suspected already the Jan dates I have are original, but not correct for my build. Just getting ready to look around for something less than a King's Ransom. Tom #24014

    78 Hood Alignment

Read the archives, helpful, but not exactly my problem. My 78 L82 hood seems to fit OK heightwise relative to the nose and fenders in the front and rear, and side to side. But when I shut the hood, the middle is about 1/8 or so lower than the fender, but the front and back are still pretty level. Can't tell for sure if the car has ever had front end work, but everything else seems to line up OK (urethane bumper, doors to front fenders, etc. I always assume the worst on this project, but seems that bad body work would not present this way?

It seems as if somehow the hood has been 'flattened out' in the middle. I've read of bulges in the middle, but this is just the opposite. Don't see how shims front or rear will help as the front and rear seem to be OK. So I'm throwing myself on the mercy of the experts.

Get the rubber bumpers for the hood ledge and it should solve the problem.

        Wayne -

Thanks, I wasn't even aware I needed them, but was in the neighborhood of a local Corvette restoration shop and spied a couple of C3's in there that had them. Picked some up today and will post results!

Re: 78 Hood Alignment - Success!

Got a couple rubber bumpers. Experimented a little with placement until alignment was as good as it's going to get, then glued them down. Then glued the nose back to it's support and it looks decent. Thanks for the help!
