'65 Front Emergency Brake Cable Fit

I have just replaced the front emergency brake cable on my '65 with a GM direct replacement cable . This new cable is approx. 3 inches longer than the old one. The casing is the identical length. Consequently, it is impossible to adjust with the pull handle not retracting back against the switch.Too much slop.
Has anyone run into this problem ??
My only alternative is to have the cable shortened.
I ordered another cable from GM in the hopes that GM manufactured the first incorrectly. This was not the case.

The current part number for the 64-66 front cable is GM #3842936 and that's what you should have. That's not only the current part number, that's the same part number it's been since 1964 AND it's the original part number of the cable used in PRODUCTION. I seriously doubt that the length specs of this part have changed. So, either the part has been packaged incorrectly or it's been manufactured incorrectly. That situation could affect more than 1 unit, though. So, ordering another part might just produce another "mistake" (as you've found out). Have your dealer contact GMSPO.

With the cables out side by side the sheathing is longer or the cable is longer or both. The replacement cables I have found have a funny brass end on them that does not fit properly in the recepticle.I had to take a rat tail file and file mine somewhat so the bolt would go thru once I had it nested properly I had no problem adjusting it.

I hope you under stand what I mean by nesting it in the receptical
