    59 holes

I guess it would be crazy to ask if the metal cover is available?

Sure...And Only Two and 1/2 MY Have It?...

Ron, go down to Home Depot and buy you a small sheet of that mild steel material in the thickness you prefer, measure the dimensions between the screw holes (include the tunnel curvature), add 3/4" to 1" to each dimension (L & W), cut it out, and bend it snugly around the tunnel to fit. Duct tape it in place and mark the screw holes, remove and drill the holes. Wah-la...repro hole cover. Remember that Dennis said you would have to pull up the carpet or put it on a lift to even see it.

Anticipating your next question, I would bead-blast it (or scuff with Scotch-brite), and paint it semi-gloss black. Apply 3M ribbon sealant and install.

Don't know if it really matters since it can't be seen, but the plate on my car was painted interior color (red in my case).

      Regards,

      Wes

Wes, I don't know anything about C1s...only how to improvise when there are no other alternatives.

On your hole cover plate...Did it look like it was painted in place, i.e. overspray on the tunnel around the perimeter of the plate. They may have painted it in place during other interior painting to apply some corrosion protection on bare steel, because color would be immaterial. On C1s, were other interior components painted at the assembly plant?

BTW, Ron, I believe I would dress (smooth) the plate edges, and cut the corners off (45 deg) or radius them to insure you don't have little corner bulges under the carpet. Once you have bent it over the tunnel, you might also try bending it little more out of the car to make it fit snugly...the spring in the steel will keep it from fitting tightly unless you overbend it ever so slightly.

It was installed in the raw body shell in the Body Shop (along with all the miscellaneous riveted brackets and reinforcements), and caught color overspray in the Paint Shop; no attempt was made to paint it any particular color.

            Chuck,

I don't know anything about C1's either, but am quickly learning. I only recently acquired my 59, but I've always been a Stingray kind of guy.

It appears to me that the cover plate was indeed painted in place, with overspray on the tunnel as you described. I believe this because the plate itself has a solid "paint job" while the tunnel area around the cover has obvious overspray. Perhaps it was hit with a quick lick at the same time the center dash console was painted.

Re the plate itself, the corners are indeed rounded. I agree with you that it would be quite simple to make. If you would like, I can post the dimensions.

            Regards,

            Wes

Wes, I am sure Ron would like to see the dimensions...it will help to have dimensions from the real deal to confirm measurements from the car.

                Ron,

I'm still trying to figure out which box I put my cover in. As soon as I find it, I'll post the dimensions for you.
