Original vs. Repo Redlines

Is there an easy way to tell the difference between reproduction redline tires and originals? I'm going to look at Goodyear Silvertown redlines that came off of a 67. Any info would be appreciated. .

Goodyear never made Silvertowns............BFGoodrich did.
The only reproduction redlines available today are Goodyear Power Cushions.
Firestone Deluxe Champions are being reproduced as redlines, but original Firestone redlines were branded "Super Sports".

The biggest thing is that on originals the red line was moulded into the tire. The repos are added to the surface of the tire.

------Im sorry, but I have to make a slight correction there,Kevin. The only tires I know of with the stripes added to the surface of the tire would be radial tires done by Diamondback and maybe other radial suppliers. Both Cokers "Firestones" and Kelseys "Goodyears" as well as the other bias-plys are made very similarly to the originals with the colored sripe (red,white,gold) moulded into the tire.Lettering, tread, and DOT and such are different but stripes are not grafted on to the surface............Bill S

Original Redlines were not really red.....

they were a lighter shade, more toward orange. Repops are almost maroon.

-------Even back when these colored stripe tires were new the stripe color varied from manufacturer to manufacturer.
-------I agree that the stripe color of the reproduction tires appears different than the originals you see at NCRS meets today, but consider that the gold and red stripe original tires are now 37/38 years old and have faded to some degree.
-------Im not saying that the repros are dead on but they might be closer than we all percieve them to be, dont you think?.........Bill S

Thanks guys for all of the info. I really need to work on calling "for sale" ads quicker. I just missed out on a set of original redlines for $100.00. SOLD before I got their. I hate when that happens.

Not really, Bill. The best visual demonstration...

was at the waco regional last year. Of the 67's we judged there were four black cars, all with redlines, lined up on the West wall. The one original set stood out dramatically from the others. These looked exactly like the original redlines on the '67 with 21,000 miles I Purchased from the original Owner (Doctor) in 1969.
