Re: C1 Removable Trans Tunnel
My '58 has the back half of the tunnel, where the shifter is, as a separate piece that is screwed down. I believe it was discontinued sometime in '59. My '58 has one and my understanding is the earlier ones had it. Ted- Top

Re: C1 Removable Trans Tunnel
This is the piece I'm refering to. On my '58 it is screwed in place and my understanding is it was that way on the earlier C1 models. At least in Noland's book he states that this was changed for the '59 model year. I had one '58 owner indicate that his was molded in but later came back and stated it was a separate piece. When we were researching the "Siberian heater holes" the '58 AIM had two other parts removed on the same date in '59 and I believe one of them was the screws holding this piece. Given that I'm wondering if some of the early '59s also had this piece held in place by screws. In the '58 I think you'd have a hard time physically removing it since it goes under the heater/radio console. On my '60 it was part of the floor board.

Re: C1 Removable Trans Tunnel
Ted,
Apparently I was wrong. I looked at some pictures that I had, and I did find an eary 59 that had the removable trans tunnel. I would guess that the deletion of the holes must have happened at the same time as the change to a bonded tunnel.
