I thought some of you might find this interestig. I took my 68 to a local car show on Sunday. A guy came over and told me he just bought a 68 from an estate. He doesn't know much about Corvettes, but he was at a party and overheard a woman who works in a law office talking about this car that needed to get sold. He got it for a very good price.
It had not been on the road for a while and it doesn't have the original motor, but he does have the tank sticker still on the tank that indicates it was a 427/435 car. Then he finds all the previous registrations in the paperwork. The estate guy was the second owner. This guy is a New York City Cop and his "beat" is in Brooklyn. It turns out that the original owner's address is near his beat, so he goes there. No sign of the original owner, but the new landlord lets him look around and they find the original motor with the tri-power set up in the basement! Also assorted other spare parts.
Yes, I did encourage him to join NCRS.
Like my old boss used to say,"I'd rather be lucky than smart."
