    1963 Ignition Switch Question

    Folks,

Single brain cell fade set in this AM! Have a quick question - on the 1963, should one be able to remove the key from the ignition in any of the positions (of course disregarding the OFF position!)?

Just want to be sure, as I am going to Wildwood for PV, and if this should not be possible, I need to pull the ignition and find out why I can remove the key!

    Re: 1963 Ignition Switch Question

Rick, I can remove my key in the LOCK and ON position. I can not remove the key in the OFF and ACC. position. I suggest we wait for a consensus of opinion on this one as old locks can do anything they want.

I just went to the owners guide before posting this, on page 6 is the answer as I described above.

rick; harry has it correct and the augusta midget will insist it work as harry describes. also note that the switch should move between off and on without the key inserted in the cylinder. good luck. you are about to deal with the most p.v. knowledgable team leader that NCRS has. mike

        Harry/Mike,

thanks for the response - didn't have PV/JG in front of me, and wanted to be sure! looks like a trip to Pat Kraus in Fallston, MD this afternoon is in order to fix the ignition!

Rick - In addition to the excellent information provided by Harry and Dr. Mike; check the Owner's Manual and you should find a write up on the ignition lock/key functioning. Pete

rick: the radio, esp if its an early signal seeker and the vent window regulaors as well as the interior door pulls and the seat track function are very common areas where pv failure occurs so do your homework on these. se ya in jersey this week, mike

Rick, a worn key can cause this. How is your key? Good luck.

                  Bill,

Funny, you mention a worn key - that's what Pat thought also, so he cut me two new ones and put new tumblers in - everything works like it is supposed to now!

THANKS TO ALL! Will be sleeping with the PV guide tonite and tomorrow nite! (VBG)

Musta have done PV before. Most owners cannot sleep night(s) before PV. When I did PV's it was easy to identify the owner, if I did not already know him. He was the one with the bags hanging under the eyes. Red eyes, bleary, tired look. Worried look on his face.

Seriously, have fun, relax, take it easy. It is only a car.

Losta luck. See you in Joisey.
