    '65 Holley Carb issues

I have a '65 with an L-79 with correct holley carb. Carb was rebuilt 300 miles ago by Holley. The car runs fine, but when I come out in the morning after driving it the night before, there is a pool of gas on the intake, passenger side, it looks to be coming from the base of the carb. I put a new gasket(without sealer) under the carb when I put it back on. What can I do to fix this?

Jeremy; I just cured something simular and I found the gasquet/s(sp)that go under the head of the bolts that hold the float bowl to the body had gone bad. Also tighten the bolts slightly if you haven't done so, but be careful, over tightening causes problems.

This is more likely caused by gas weeping out of the throttle shaft. Mine does the same thing. I don't think you can do anything about it, but if it is really bad your shaft may be really worn. I made a similar post about this and someone said something can do done about it but I don't recall what it was. Try searching the achieves.

        Jeremy,

Welcome to the world of Holley. When you or someone else rebuilds an old Holley they should come with a " no more leaks warranty " but they don't and sooner or later it will leak again. There are many places that these things can pool gas on the intake. Many of these leaks happen after the engine has been run for just a short time or after they have cooled down. Evaporation and heat when the engine is hot make it difficult to diagnose where the leak is coming from. I would clean up the puddle and start the car and drive it for about five minutes and shut it off. Take the air cleaner off and look into the carb to see what is going on. Gas leaking into that area will find its way along the throttle shafts and pool onto the area of the manifold you have described. A warped main body or metering block or metering plate ( if your carb has one ) can cause this kind of leaking. I have never seen a carb base to manifold gasket fix a leak. If it is not leaking because of the bowl gaskets I think you have some internal issues. You might get lucky but even if you get it fixed keep watching.

Re: '65 Holley Carb issues P.S.

Check your float adjustment as too high a fuel level after heat soak can cause the overflow into the carb and end up on the manifold.
