    Differential Codes

I have a 71 LT-1 with differential stampings that do not match the Judging manual or the Corvette by the numbers. The stampings on my car are:

    1 AN 8 69 W

This is a fairly accurate representation of the of the stamping. Can anyone help me with this?

My car is a survivor and has all the original components and I have no reason to believe that the differential has been replaced. To my best calculations the rear end ratio is a 3:55 to 1 and it is a positraction unit.

    Bill:

I believe you've got a 3:55 posi (as you indicated) from 1968 (Aug 68). The code (AN) indicates a 68 while 8 69 I believe to be Aug 69. It seems in the early years, a day was also included. Sometime in 1970, Warner went to Julian dates which would make this the 869th day of 68...but that's not realistic.
