One more dumb newbie question- The permatex catalog has a bewildering array of loctites for applications. Which do I want for waterpump bolts, and how much is used? Just a dab on the lowest 3-4 threads, or does one really goop it on? Sorry if this is supposed to be obvious, I've gotten a late start on my automotive DIY education......

Rob:
For the blind holes (those that do not intersect the water jacket)it is perfectly fine to clean the threads thoroughy, oil them, and torque to specs. For those that go into the water jacket, I recommend any one of three possible sealants.
1. GM Pipe Sealant With Teflon (or aftermarket equivalent).
2. Indian Head, or Permatex shellac.
3. Ordinary pipe dope.
Just be sure to clean/chase all threads for best results.
