C1 '58 Dash Grease Pencil Markings

I just got the windshield and dash pad off and noticed 96 or 9b written in green grease pencil by the mirror mount. It's written on both the driver's and passenger's side of the mount holes. Anybody have ideas on what it means? There's another mark by the speaker hole but I haven't been able to make it out. Any possibilities there? Thanks again for all the help. Ted

    Ted,

In an earlier post a month or so ago, I asked the same question about my '58 and was told it was a job number at the paint shop. Maybe you will get a different reply. I'll be watching with interest to see what the responses are.

It's an assembly line job number. We all wish that # would unearth a build sheet for every car, but it won't, to my knowledge. That number will typically show up in other places on the car which is neat - but, once that number has been used, it will immediately show up again on the next batch of cars. The recycle process started sooner than we'd like... DC
