59 hardtop wheather stripping

just bought new vertical and horizontal wheather stripping for my hardtop and have a couple of questions.
1 the old stripping has a material in the inside of the rubber and the new one does not. can that be added or is there a place that makes a more original wheater strip. is the material supposed to be added afterwards
2 if you cant get the original how do these judge, the old ones are old looking and cracked which should i keep.
3. how hard are they to change and how do the rivets get put on?
any suggestions would be appreciated

Bob - Not too much help here, but I believe '59's may have still had the stuff on the weatherstrip. That can be glued in place on the repro. I don't think anyone offers it done that way. Like I said, not much help here. I would add, I don't think the judges are going to take a big swing at your hard top points, but if judged correctly, a deduction may be appropriate. DC

The ST-12 shows how to remove the stainless pieces to get at the weatherstripping. Search archives for other articles on hardtop restoration; I have seen them. Also the NCRS CD-ROM has articles. It is not a simple task.
