    French locks on transmission

I am reassembling my Muncie 4 speed. I recently read that the 4 bolts on the front of the case (front bearing retainer bolts) should be secured with french locks. There were no locks on mine when I tore it down. Two questions: 1) Are the locks strongly recommended?, and 2) do they have to be special ordered, or are they easily found?

    Yes, they're recommended - LICS has them - #32-66G, $10/pr.

I had them on an old Muncie, but I also had some stripped threads. The front bearing sleeve retainer got loose, and cocked slightly. It wore the retainer thin on one side. Eventually it also leaked oil out onto the clutch. It was quite a mess. I used that as an excuse to buy a correct Borg Warner.
