restoring my early 66, the nose is off and the body shop says that the fan shroud and radiator support don't match well and he thinks that the early 66 may have had a metal fan shroud rather than the fiberglass one i installed from eckler's, does this make sense, could an early 66 (number around 2000) have had a metal fan shroud, thanks, joe

Re: early 66 fan shroud
Joe,
I've owned two 66 convertibles with 327 / 300. One was built in March, the other in April. Both had the original fan shroud. Both were fiberglass. Page 118 of the the 66 JG describes the fan shroud in more detail.

Re: early 66 fan shroud
I dont think so, but you can tell quickly by looking at the support, whether it is a 65 or a 66 support. The 66 has a lower mounting bracket that is about 3" long and the support lays back more angle. The 65 support is straighter up and has small mounts.- Top
