I've seen 3 different versions of the front motor mount that goes under the water pump. The 3 versions I've seen are no cutout above the water pump, a rectangular notch, and a semi circle. They all looked to be original versions. What years was each one used? More specifially which one would a late '58 have? Thanks, Ted

Re: C1 Motor Mount Identification Question
Ted,
I do not believe that the cut out started being used until the water pump had a top fitting in it for the heater hose. This would have been consistent with a 1961 and 62 model. A 58 would not have used a mount with a cut out in it, and the use of one on a Pre 61 car would be a sure points deduct. An awful lot of them have been used over the years since this was the only GM mount available, and it is a functional replacement, but there are good repro's of the early model mount available now days. There was never a square cutout mount made, and this was probably just an early mount that was modified so that a later model waterpump could be used.

Thanks for the responses. The notched motor...
mount was on a July built '60 vette I used to have. The intesting part is the notch doesn't look home made (i.e. doesn't look like someone cut or ground it out). It sure looks stamped and the notch is angled back on both sides. The car was originally a 270HP car and most of the components appeared to be original to the car. I still have the mount on the ZZ3 I had in the car, so I can send a pic if anyone is interested. Thanks again for the help. Ted- Top
